Workshops:

MarketingCreating your Author Brand

You’ve written a book? Congratulations, that is no easy feat, and studies have shown that 97% of authors never get to the point of typing “The End.” So, pat yourself on the back.

However, you are not done. If you wrote the book just to prove you could do it, that’s fine. But, if you plan to actually sell some copies (aside from your friends and family), you need to put some work into creating what the publishing world calls your “Author Brand.”

This workshop will cover what is vital to establish your brand and get the word out to the reading public that you are a genuine author and have a book that is worth their time and money.

Is it easy? No. More difficult every day, but it can be done. Is it expensive? Yes, it can be, but you can do quite a bit without breaking the bank. Does it take a lot of time? Yes, again, but once you get yourself established and on a routine, it won’t be burdensome at all.

Let’s talk the road to success, keeping in mind everyone’s idea of success is different. There will be things we cover that you won’t want to do, but I guarantee there will be something here for everyone.

Writing a Series: How to organize, write, and promote

Do you want to write a series, but not sure of how to manipulate several books? We will cover how to keep your readers interested, the importance of having a series bible, and how to market/launch it. We will also discuss rapid release, the benefits and the drawbacks.

Writing Historical Characters for the Modern Readers

Today’s readers want different things in their romance books than what their mothers and grandmothers wanted. Yes, the draw to historical romance is still there. Combining accuracy with the past, yet writing characters that appeal can be a challenge. Using examples from my own books as well as quotes from my other historical author friends, we’ll look at various ways we can hold our readers interest without rewriting history.

Writing Romance

Is there really such a thing as a happy ending? Yes and no. But one thing is certain, in romance books there is always a happily ever after or a happy for now. That is the definition of romance books.

This workshop will cover this popular genre, with many fans who read up to three to five books a week. They are a voracious group.

And why are they? What is special about a romance book? Let’s find out.

Writing Book blurbs and Taglines

Are you an Agatha Christi fan? Love Miss Marple and Hercule Periot? Does Mary Higgins Clark books draw you in?

Then you are a Cozy Mystery fan.

A Cozy Mystery by definition is a Suspense/Thriller without the blood and guts. There is a murder (usually, but not always), but no messy business on the page.

If you think this is the type of story you would like to write, join us as we go through the steps and touch on the ‘dos’ and ‘do nots’ for this interesting, humorous genre.
