Today I am super excited to present my fellow Oklahoma Romance author and friend, Alicia Dean. Today, this very day, her new paranormal, Soul Seducer, hits the cyber shelves. I know we’re all anxious to hear about her new book, so let’s get right to it.
Callie: Tell us, Alicia, if you could be a character in one of your books, who would it be, and why?
Alicia: It would probably be Monroe Donovan, from my ‘Death’ series. She’s not perfect, but she’s strong and caring. And, she leads a very interesting life. I think it would be great to work for a newspaper and to become embroiled in true crime cases (although actually losing people you care about would be tough). Plus, she not only gets to be with Lane Brody, her story is ongoing, so she doesn’t just go away once the book ends like most of my other heroines.
Callie: Ah, she is part of the series. That’s interesting, and I can see why you would like to be her. Do you prefer redeemable villains, or like them nasty through and through?
Alicia: I like really, really nasty villains who aren’t actually redeemable, but they have some aspect, even a tiny one, that elicits a little sympathy.
Callie: Ooh. The real bad type. Love to hate them myself. On the other hand, what faults do you prefer your heroes to have?
Alicia: There aren’t any specific faults I prefer my heroes to have, each hero is different (I hope) and each one has their own traits, including faults. Same goes for my heroines. I do prefer that they have faults rather than being perfect, although I’ll admit that it’s difficult to write flawed characters as heroes and heroines. Some writers do it splendidly. It’s a struggle for me.
Callie:I know what you mean. I tend to write really, really nice guys as my heroes, and it’s hard to find something wrong with them. When you’re starting a new book, or while in the middle of it as well, is finding the right title easy or hard?
Alicia: It’s difficult for me. Most, if not all, of my story titles have changed. I usually have help from my author buddies in brainstorming titles and we finally come up with something that fits. Soul Seducer was originally Reaper’s Kiss, then Reaper’s Seduction. (My agent thought Reaper’s Kiss should be changed. My publisher thought Reaper’s Seduction should change. We ended up with Soul Seducer)
Callie: In the event Hollywood takes notice of your book, (don’t we wish, lol), who would you like to see cast as the hero and heroine in a movie made about your latest release?
Alicia: Finally…an easy question! Ian Somerhalder as my hero and Mila Kunis as my heroine.
Callie: Good answer, I’m sure after reading your book, we’ll all agree. Now for a little bit of fun:
Mountain home or beach house?
Gloomy day or sunshine to get your muse going?
Gloomy all the way. Stormy even better. Blizzard, the best (as long as I have power and I’m at home and no one gets injured or stranded)
Coffee or tea?
Cat or dog?
I’m not a pet person, but if I have to choose one, definitely dog.
Beach vacation or sightseeing?
Depends on the ‘sights.’ If it’s someplace interesting, probably sight-seeing.
Jeans, t-shirt, and sneakers, or pencil skirt, silk blouse, and killer heels?
Ha! My writer buddies would SO laugh at this. I’m about the only one in my group who’s not a fashion-ista. Jeans t-shirts and sneakers for sure.
Carrie Underwood or Lady Gaga?
No doubt about this one, either. Carrie Underwood for sure. Although, I’ll admit, when I really took time to listen to Lady Gaga, I found she has a fantastic voice and some really good songs. She’s just way too ‘out there’ for me, not to mention, my first love is country music.
Alicia Dean writes paranormal and romantic suspense and is the author of six published novels, two novellas, and a handful of short stories. She has three grown children and lives in Edmond, Oklahoma. Alicia loves nothing more than crafting spine-chilling, edge-of-your-seat suspense. She’s a huge Elvis Presley fan, and loves MLB and the NFL. If you look closely, you’ll see a reference to one or all three in pretty much everything she writes. If she could, she would divide all her time between writing, watching her favorite television shows-such as Justified, Dexter, Vampire Diaries, and True Blood-and reading her favorite authors…Stephen King, Dennis Lehane, Michael Connelly, Lee Child, and Lisa Gardner to name a few. Feel free to drop her a line at AliciaMDean@aol.com.
Can you tell us a little bit about your new release? I know we’re all anxious to hear more.
She spent her entire life fighting death. Now she’s falling in love with him. . . .
Audra Grayson became a nurse in order to help save lives. But one night after a brutal beating, she almost loses her own. The near-death experience opens a door between the world of the living and the world beyond. Two Grim Reapers invade her life. One is charming, with the angelic blonde looks of a saint and the black soul of a psychopath. The other is dark, dangerously attractive and, in spite of her distaste for his reaper duties, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him.
When Audra’s patients begin to die unexpectedly and her loved ones are threatened, she will risk her life—even her soul—to save them. But can she risk her heart to an inhuman being whose very purpose is to take those she is trying to save?
