Callie: I’m excited to present Angela Scavone, author of Love by the Book. Before we hear about Angela, the author, let’s find out something about Angela, the person.  Tell us a little about yourself.

Angela:  I’m a lighthearted people person, who likes to laugh at every chance I can get. When my three little dogs aren’t keeping me busy they are keeping my feet warm while I’m writing.

Callie:  Ah, the writer always seems to need some type of animal close by to write. Mine are my two rescue dogs and rescue cat. What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

Angela: Very hectic.  After working a full eight hours at my day job, I will then come home and work through the night on my project.  It makes for a lot sleepless nights and lost meals but it’s all worth it in the end to have the story, that is rattling around in my head, finally out on paper.

Callie: It seems that schedule works for you. Love by the Book has gotten wonderful reviews.Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

Angela: Dreams.  My dreams tend to play out like movies, very colorful and detailed. As long as I can remember them when I wake up, I will grab the notepad by my bed and start writing out some of the details before they are lost. I, also, have a little quirk in my dreams that I will dream of a place and then several days, weeks or even years later I will come upon that place in reality.  It really creeps some of my friends and family out, when we will travel somewhere we have never been before and I say “Oh I dreamt of this place” then I start describing the road and the kind of houses and buildings that we are going to see along the way, then we see all the things I’ve described.  I tend to use the places that I remember in my stories.

Callie:  That’s amazing. Sounds like you should be writing paranormal. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

Angela: I never understood what author’s meant by the characters lead the story until I sat down to write an entire novel. I always thought that I was the author therefore I told the characters where they were going to go and what they were going to do.  What I learned is that, as long as I have an idea how I want the story to start and end, the character’s take the road they see fit during the middle of the story.  They take the story to places I never thought it would go and I love that about all my characters.

Callie:  I agree.  One time I had two characters who would not do what I wanted them to do, until I took them out of the office and put them in a bar with a beer in their hands. I must learn how to make my characters obey. Where do you see yourself, career wise, in five years?

Angela: I  would like to have a few more books under my belt and would like to be working full time on my writing career.  There’s nothing like the thought of waking up in the morning, taking the dogs for a walk and then going into my home office to work…ah the dream.

Callie:  Ah, every author’s dream. Along with the small cottage in the woods, or a house on the beach in which to do said writing, lol. And lastly, what are you working on now?

Angela: My latest project is a story about a woman officer in the military whose sole job is to go overseas to pick up the bodies of military men and women.  The trips start to become dangerous and she is forced to have a partner go with her on the missions to pick up the bodies.  Much to her regret she is partnered with her ex husband.  There are funny parts to the story as well as parts that make you think about life and what’s really important.

Callie: That sounds great. I really look forward to reading that one.

Now that we’ve learned a little bit about Angela, here is where she hangs out: Angela Scavone

    Hey Angela

A cottage in the woods or on the beach sound wonderful! I live a few blocks from Lake Erie, but living right on the shore would be so much nicer ;)

    Good luck with your writing!
