Monday Magic welcomes Amanda Shalaby!!

Hi everyone. Today I’m presenting Amanda Shalaby, a fellow Crimson Romance author.

NaNoWriMo Is Fast Approaching… What Will You Write?

 One month.  50,000 words.

I know what you’re saying.  Where did 2012 go?  Is it really almost November?  But there is no time for that!  This Thursday, National Novel Writing Month officially begins, and if you have always wanted to try your hand at writing a novel, this is the time to do it.  So grab your notebook, pen or pencil, laptop or iPad, and let’s get to it!  What are you going to write?

Since I was a young teen, I have had characters vying for my attention, demanding their turn to have their stories committed to the written page.  Give yourself a moment and reflect – what inner voices are demanding your attention?  Whose stories are you responsible to tell?  It’s not something to take lightly.

Fortunately, you still have a few days to decide who it’s going to be, (and if you’re in the path of Hurricane Sandy, as I am, we’ll perhaps be able to look upon any power outages as a golden opportunity to do just this).  Whoever is the most persistent at tapping you on the shoulder, haunting you on your way to work, and sneaking into your thoughts while you cook dinner – November is their month!  You owe it to your characters, and you can show them that you’re ready by signing up here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/en

Take a look at the beautiful cover of Amanda’s book, Rhianna. Here is the blurb and buy information:

Upon the unexpected death of her parents, Rhianna Braden finds the enigmatic Lord Guilford Kingsley on her doorstep. He escorts her to Kingsley Manor, where family secrets and scandals begin to unfold.
Her uncommon beauty captures the attention of the dashing Lord Thayne Brighton of Ravensleigh, but Rhianna is certain, despite their mutual attraction, that he would never choose her over his wealthy intended. Meanwhile, Lady Lydia Kingsley suspects her husband’s attention to Rhianna has led to an affair between them. Events turn deadly when the truth of their relationship is discovered.
Eventually, Rhianna is forced to make a life-altering decision—while discovering that some secrets are not meant to be kept.

Now, back to NaNo. Amanda asks: What are you going to write?

  1. Beautiful cover!

I’ve yet to participate in NaNo…seems like every time is comes about I’m overloaded with other things. Sounds fun though and I hope to try it eventually :)

Good luck with your book Amanda!

    • Thank you, Christine, and yes! Give it a try! Even if you don’t make the 50K words, it’s a great jump start that you can continue with long after November has passed :-)

      • Linda Root says:

What an idea. I have just started book #4 of my Queen of Scots Suite, and I need a break from 16th century Scotland. Maybe I’ll letmy attention wander to some purely fictional characters . But the real inspiration in your post is the reminder that even if I do not complete the 50K, I will have a start of something. Thanks

        • Absolutely, Linda! Its a wonderful way to both get started on something new (to perhaps complete at a later date) and give your mind a break from your current project. It’s a win, win! Thanks for coming by!

  2. Calisa Rhose says:

Does it sound bad to say I don’t have a clue? Really. I thought I had an idea, but now I’m sure that was a gnat flying past my mind’s eye, blurring my rationale! LOL But that’s how it goes for me. My characters take the reins for these challenges almost every time.

Rhianna sounds lovely and the cover is beautiful! Nice to meet you, Amanda.

    • Hi Calisa, nice to meet you, too! Thank you for your kind words. I don’t think it sounds bad, and I say, let your characters take the reins again! It is, after all, their stories. Who are we to tell them what their life & experiences are about? ;-)

  3. Ella Quinn says:

What a beautiful cover. Great post and excerpt.

  4. R.T. Wolfe says:

I am a virgin NANO. I’ll ‘see’ you there! My ID is R.T. Wolfe

  5. Callie says:

I think Amanda may have lost her power. I know she’s in the path of Sandy. Hope everyone who is in the same position stays safe.

    • Thank you, Callie. I did lose power. We were very fortunate to get it by just a short while ago. So glad to see you were all having a great deal of fun without me! lol And thank you, Callie, for having me on your blog :-)

  6. That cover is gorgeous. I did NaNo for the first time last year, but I wrote a middle grade novel that was finished at 40,000 words. This year I’m determined to reach 50,ooo.

  7. Lynn Cahoon says:

I’m not doing Nano this year. Just trying to plug along on my own path. The best I ever did with Nano was 35K which I was really happy with. Good luck!

  8. Becky Lower says:

Good luck on NaNo, Amanda! I participated in it several years ago, and wrote most of The Reluctant Debutante during it. Of course, I then needed to polish it up and entered it into contests to help me with the sticky parts of the plot, but without NaNo, I don’t think it would have seen the light of day. If I wasn’t involved with my Jed story now, I’d be tempted to enter NaNo again to write Jasmine’s story.
